Fleetwood

Thu, 08 Oct 2009

Welcome to our final Fleetwood. The weather was sunny, bright and with a slightly easterly wind. Tidal height was 8.7 metres and the tide was due in at 11.28am so with an early start to this morning training we were set and ready for action. Our club photo’s were taken our warm ups completed we entered the water.

Danny and Kath took our group and led us into the water for a swim with the current (which was flowing in a northerly direction) then we started our rescues, we had two non-swimmers in the water in difficulty our task was to save them and bring them to the beach safely. We were to save the nearest first with our buoyancy aid and tow the other swimmer to them and rescue them both. Once back safely at the beach we had to put them into recovery positions and call for back up.

Mean while Eddie’s group were practising rescues using the carry out technique and practising their towing. Later they were on the body boards having fun.

Syd’s group were fully clothed, rescuing the non-swimmers and placing them into recovery positions along the beach shoreline and calling for further assistance. His group was taking an exam today.

The older group was with another instructor taking their Beach Lifeguard, they had to warm up and swim against the strong current towing their casualty (they looked as though they were going nowhere fast). Later they got into groups, to save a swimmer and using the carry out technique supporting the head and placing the casualty into the recovery position and calling for further assistance.

Thank you once again to the club for another fantastic day and to everyone who helped organise this event…….A great day and to finish it we had ice creams.

Thank you
